SkyRiver Joins LC's Prestigious BIBCO Program

The Library of Congress Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) has designated SkyRiver as a Bibliographic Record Program (BIBCO) utility. Under this program qualified BIBCO catalogers may create and upgrade bibliographic records to BIBCO standards using SkyRiver's cataloging client. BIBCO records meet the highest cataloging standards as set by the PCC and the records undergo complete authority heading verification.

With this designation SkyRiver adds to its PCC credentials, having served as a NACO (Name Authority Cataloging Program) Exchange Partner since 2010. SkyRiver's feature set for BIBCO cataloging includes automatic update of headings when LC authority records change and the ability to limit SkyRiver search results to PCC records.

Michigan State University Libraries will be SkyRiver's initial BIBCO participant. Lisa Robinson, MSU's Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services, says "With SkyRiver's enhanced interface and RDA support, our catalogers can contribute BIBCO records very efficiently— just as we do for NACO." Georgia Fujikawa, SkyRiver's VP for Operations, notes that "SkyRiver's BIBCO support brings benefits to all of our customers by sourcing metadata of the highest quality and by enabling catalogers to identify PCC records quickly and easily."

Cataloging Services

MCLS is pleased to offer SkyRiver’s full range of cataloging services to MCLS members.  At a time when many libraries are suffering financially, SkyRiver has arrived. An easy-to-use, easy-to-integrate cataloging service, SkyRiver offers savings in cataloging expenses without sacrificing cataloging quality and efficiency.

Providing access to millions of bibliographic records that have been pre-screened for quality and fullness, SkyRiver services include an easy-to-use, intuitive cataloging client for searching, editing, and adding records to the library's local catalog. Features include a powerful search engine with facets and tags, automatic record request notification, one-click downloading of bibliographic and authority file records, and shelf-ready support, including spine labels.

Best yet, SkyRiver integrates with any local library system that accepts MARC records and is fully operational in academic, public and consortium-based libraries throughout the U.S.

SkyRiver (www.theskyriver.com) is dedicated to the development and deployment of efficient, economical cataloging services for libraries.

eMARC Express

Specially created for libraries that purchase e-materials in quantity, eMARC Express provides timely delivery of matching bibliographic records for loading into local library systems. In addition to high quality records and exceptional coverage, eMARC Express’s low cost puts time and money back into library operations while allowing the library to maximize the visibility of e-holdings in their library catalogs and discovery products.

eMARC Express currently provides MARC files for OverDrive orders. Your library doesn’t need to be a SkyRiver subscriber to participate—any library can benefit from eMARC Express. Simply fill out the account setup form and email eMARC Express to submit an order for corresponding MARC files. And, to make it as easy as possible, SkyRiver has developed the following simple routines:
  • The library completes the eMARC Express application form on the SkyRiver web site and receives an eMARC Express account number by return email.
  • After account set up, subsequent transmission of metadata is simply done via email (emarcexpress@theskyriver.com).
  • The library chooses OverDrive’s standard option to generate a metadata spreadsheet for each order placed.
  • The spreadsheet is emailed to the library where it can be checked and then forwarded to eMARC Express.
  • Metadata are compared with the SkyRiver database and corresponding MARC records are derived or created.
  • The Library then receives the matching file of MARC records by email.

Delivery commitment: Within 3 days of receipt of metadata/report from the library

Pricing:
Full MARC records derived from SkyRiver:  $0.85/ea ($0.75/ea for SkyRiver subscribers)
MARC records created only from vendor metadata:  No Charge
Bulk files (e.g. opening day collections; backlog files):  Custom quote and delivery schedule
