Evergreen Menus and Function Keys

Evergreen's menu bar includes File, Edit, Search, Circulation, Cataloging, Admin, and Help. Each menu offers many options through a submenu - see Dougherty County Public Library's Menu Overview for more details on each menu choice.

  • File lets you open and close new Evergreen windows and tabs.
  • Edit lets you work with buckets, a group of items gathered for a common purpose. You can also replace barcodes from here.
  • Search lets you search for patrons and search the catalog.
  • Circulation lets you check out items, check in items, capture holds, and other circulation tasks
  • Cataloging lets you search the catalog and manage buckets.
  • Admin is for administrators only.
  • Help hasn't been implemented yet.

You can select all menu options in three ways.

  • Press Alt+ the underlined letter.
  • Press Ctrl+ the letter indicated.
  • Click the option with your mouse.

The most common menu choices are programmed into function keys as shortcuts

  • F1 for Checkout
  • F2 for Checkin
  • F3 for the Catalog
  • F4 for Patron Search

Navigating a Tabbed Interface

Like many web browsers and other applications, Evergreen uses a tabbed interface. Tabs allow you to have several pages open at the same time in a single window. This is easier to manage on your computer screen than multiple windows, since you can easily switch between tabs in the same window.

Tabs appear below the menu bar

  • Ctrl+T or File >New Tab creates new tabs.
  • Ctrl+W or File >Close Tab closes tabs.
  • Ctrl+Tab or clicking a tab in the tab bar switches tabs or makes a new tab active in your window.
  • To change the active tab to a new task, use a function key or click a task from a menu bar.
  • You can use tabs to access multiple tasks at the same time: patron records and searches, bibliographic records and searches, circulation and cataloging - any combination is possible in Evergreen.
